Happy Anniversary to us!

Well 17 years today Steve and I tied the knot in England!……and 26 years together!  What an amazing journey we have had…..

Out tonight to lovely Valentinos in Broadbeach.  Can’t wait! Oysters and Oyster Bay sav blanc….magnifico! I love being back in my homeland and living on the coast of Queensland is a dream for beach lover me. Happy Anniversary Steve…love you forever. X

Kensons Farm Organic Veg, Sutton Mandeville, Wiltshire……..

Organic and gorgeous, fresh and so full of flavour, Kensons Farm in Sutton Mandeville are a gem of a find for organic fruit and veg.  We found them some time ago at the Shaftesbury market in the town centre on Thursdays.  Kensons farm is owned and run by Liz and Hugh Collins and have been certified Organic since 2001.  The beetroot at the moment is wonderful, as is the pumpkins, runner beans, broccoli, chillies, spinach…….parsley and basil are fantastic too…..oh, and the best tasting carrots on the planet also!

‘Surf boards at Burleigh’……..glass art by Jenny Kirwan

This is the finished piece of art glass taken out of the kiln this morning, ‘Surf boards at Burleigh’……I fused it on a medium tac-fuse and the result was just what I was hoping for.  I also fused another piece that came out of the kiln at the same time………

Long weekend…..

‘Long weekend’ is what we say in Australia…….but in England it’s ‘ a Bank Holiday weekend!’ Sadly, Steve and I can’t do any long coast walks over the weekend as I have a knee injury, after running up and down the hills around here.  It’s called Patellofemoral pain syndrome, but commonly called runners knee.  Happens a lot to hikers/walkers/runners who take in hills, putting pressure on the knee cap from the thigh bone.  Getting better though after no activity, but hating this no activity business!!  Ughh!  Patience is not one of my strong points……….so keeping busy doing stuff around the house…..sorting out my wardrobe for the winter ahead and a summer almost lost now.

We went out for a drink today the The Cricketers Free House in the near by village of Shroton.  Lovely cider in the beer garden and back to cook a Sunday roast now as we are having lunch out tomorrow.  I’m cooking free Range Guinea Fowl  (from Waitrose) with organic carrots and beans from Kenson’s Farm  http://kensonsfarm.wordpress.com/ in Sutton Mandeville.

I’m throwing in a couple of gorgeous potatoes from the paddocks in Melbury Abbas.  This place over the hill in Melbury Abbas also does the best chicken and duck eggs I have ever tasted.  I am a very fussy free range egg person! and these a really superb…..bright yellow yolks with magnificent flavour.  They poach boil and scramble beautifully too.

Isle of Purbeck….Worth Matravers, St Aldhelm’s Head, Seacombe Cliff, Dancing Ledge to Blackers Hole and return, 13 miles on the South West Coast Path in Dorset……Magnificent!

The weather forecast for this weekend in the south of England was sensational, so we planned a long walk today along the coast to lap up the sun and the sea air.  It was sensational.  We started just after 8am and walked a total of 4 hours, around 13 miles and I loved it.  We finished with a pint and a home made pasty (disappointing!) at the Square and Compass Pub in Worth Matravers…but the Stowford Press Cider was exceptional!!  The highlight on this walk for me was passing the wonderful little chapel of St. Aldhelm’s at St. Aldhelm’s Head….an amazing tranquil space in the middle of quite a lonely part of the coastline.

My day started with our daily dog walking, taking Basil over Compton down and up to Spread Eagle Hill and back.  It was lovely and sunny and a fantastic start to the day.

Then the baking and cooking began, making a Victoria Sandwich for Sir’s Birthday, chilli burgers for Isabel and Her ladyship’s supper and Bolognaise Sauce for the weekend and for the freezer.  I finished with a little ironing, changed a light bulb!!! and was off home until this evening, when I return to cook their evening meal.

What’ cooking now?

My employers have been away in Italy, so I cooked a few things to put in the deep freeze while they were away for stand by/easy re-heat meals.  Fish pie and shepherd’s pie was on the menu……………….

A new deep freezer was bought recently, so no problem any more about lack of freezer space!  I am able to be a lot more organized now…..

Boxing Day 2013………..come on Aussie come on, come on……..

OK,  I am an Australian living in England so I won’t mention the Test Cricket!…..but another whitewash seems to come to mind!  sorry!  We shall see……Come on Aussie come on……..

We had a wonderful long walk in the Dorset air this morning and it made me feel so good, after over indulging on food we don’t usually eat….. yesterday, Christmas Day.  But it’s Boxing Day, and we are having a special meal tonight….Sparkling Rose from Australia with game pate toasts, then later on a Roast 1/2  Leg of Lamb, marinated in garlic and rosemary, served with roast root vegetables and of course the good old Brussel Sprouts.  Our Brussels are from the organic veg market stall in Shaftesbury, Kensons Farm, Sutton Manderville….they are the best tasting Brussel sprouts I have ever had!!!  Their organic vegetables are wonderful.
